2005-2006 A PLUS for Education The monthly trainings for the teachers of Timisoara organized by Student Plus have been a consistent programme allowing the participants to get new teaching skills and increase their knowledge, to share from their valuable experience and create partnerships among teachers and institutions. The highlight of this school year was the "Intercultural Conference for Teachers" held May 20th 2006 with the theme "Motivating the Unmotivated," organized in partnership with "Consiliul Judetean Timis", Departamentul Cultura, Arta, Tineret si Sport.
Each summer the international professional summer school for teachers held at Cheile Butii in Hunedoara county offers to new and old participants the opportunity to improve their English language skills as well as their teaching skills, to learn about Christianity, to relax and have fun with teachers from Romania and from abroad. 2004 Romanian and American Business Students Gain Understanding and Negotiation Skills For the second year, Student Plus and Davenport University of Midland, Michigan, U.S.A. have organized a program for business students in Timisoara. This year we established a connection with Tibiscus University of Timisoara and they joined the program. Romanian and American academics and students came together for 5 days from May 3 through May 7 to share perspectives and experiences, to learn from one another. The purpose was to develop negotiation skills and gain a better understanding of different cultures. The program not only included courses, seminars, workshops and professional field visits but had also a social and cultural dimension, which was really enjoyed.
"I learned a lot about people. Romanian and American students share similar abilities." - USA student
"I learned the importance of working together as a team and the need to respect others. I made friends and I enjoyed a lot working with my team."- Romanian student
"It was my first complex negotiation process I've been involved in. I learned a lot and I'm sure I'll be using it. The program exceeded my expectations!" - Romanian student
We are looking forward for the next year program!
2003
Due to the fact that more and more people from different professional categories with specific training needs are in contact with us we offer them different courses to enhance their competence in their professions. All the topics addressed are presented from a Christian perspective by specialists who are also believers.
Romanian and American business students sharing knowledge and experience Last year, in cooperation with Davenport University, Midland-Michigan, U.S.A., Student Plus Foundation organized a new project for business students. This initiative involved academics and students from several of Timisoara's universities alongside colleagues from Davenport. The project took place over a 5-day period in early May 2003. The purpose was to provide an opportunity for Romanian and American students to share perspectives and experiences and learn from one another in a way that stimulated the development of an entrepreneurial spirit, and the practical application of their theoretical knowledge. Following paper presentations and seminar, discussions mixed working groups were formed and each tasked with writing a business plan, which was presented in plenary at the conclusion of the course. An important aspect of the program involved field visits to local business enterprises to study their activities in a realistic local commercial context. There was also a social and cultural dimension to the participants' experience, which was much enjoyed. The very positive feedback we received from those involved encourages us to feel that we succeeded in our aim.
We are very glad that the cooperation with Davenport is continuing as we develop this initiative further.
Our next joint project will take place this year from May 3 through May 8, and will focus on the theme of "Negotiation". We are looking forward to welcoming another enthusiastic group of young would-be entrepreneurs.
Ethical behavior - the challenge for leaders and decision makers Good business practice and management decisions require many skills and qualities, but not least among these is the need for high standards of probity, transparency and social responsibility. Ethical business practice is, no longer regarded as optional even in the secular and commercial sphere. Trustworthiness and fair dealing, whether in relations with employees, customers or shareholders, are essential requirements. As part of our vision to enable people to bring Christian insights and principles into their working lives, we organized a training course led by Mr.Hendrie van Mannen from Holland in March 2003. This was attended by eight professional managers from Timisoara who showed a high level of interest and appreciation. We hope to build on this foundation in the future by offering a series of opportunities for decision makers to be learn about the contribution that a Christian perspective has to make to any responsible decision making process.
